Welcome to the Feather River Route! |
|
|
My model railroad layout is an N-Scale
depiction of the modern Union Pacific traversing former Western Pacific
tracks from the San Francisco Bay Area through the beautiful Feather River
Canyon deep in Northern California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. Modeled are select parts of the route from the Port of Oakland and other East Bay cities, over the Altamont Pass, through the flat Central Valley before climbing more than 5,000 feet to the summit at Beckwourth Pass. Modern motive power pull long trains of double-stack containers, auto racks, unit grain trains, and of course lots of mixed merchandise freights. In addition, the BNSF runs several trains a day in both directions using trackage rights between Stockton and the north leg of the Keddie Wye. Even two vintage WP RDCs full of railfans can sometimes be spotted through the canyon. Thanks to a lot of hard work by some very talented modelers, the layout is capturing the essence of modern Class 1 railroading through the scenic Feather River Canyon. Enjoy this web site tour of the layout's concept and progress, or come visit it in person at the 2004 NMRA National Convention. Thanks for stopping by! - Mark Bridgwater
