Layout Progress circa 1999 Layout progress slowed to a crawl as work and family activities consumed most of my modeling time. Progress picked up toward the end of the year, and regular train nights were again instituted. The crew gradually grew with the addition of more excellent modelers. Upper level benchwork was installed and the mainline subroadbed marched east toward the upper staging on the right side of aisle 1 (aisles are numbered right to left). Below is how the three aisles of the layout looked in November 1999.
|
Upper level benchwork above Oroville has started in mid-'99 at the future site of Pulga siding. MasoniteTM backdrop installed and awaiting blue sky paint. |

Aisle 3 with Pulga far left, Keddie Wye in far corner, Sacramento on lower level and Williams Loop upper right. |
Aisle 2 with Williams Loop upper left, above Stockton passing siding and future yard. Clio trestle module is hung in the far left corner, and benchwork for Sloat is at upper right above partially scenicked Altamont Pass in lower right. |
Aisle 1 with Niles Canyon and Hearst siding in lower left. At right, lower level staging is installed and operational, awaiting Oakland benchwork to be installed directly above it. Upper level benchwork has reached Portola (upper left), and will soon reach the upper staging on right. This picture may be earlier than the other two due to lack of painted backdrop.
